How does 120v 4.5a = 3500w?

I am working in a small commercial kitchen, and came across these specs:

Adcraft DF-6L/2 counter-top electric double deep fryer, 120 V/60 Hz/1 ph, 4.5 A, 3500 W, NEMA 5-15 plug

And repeated: 120v/60/1-ph, 4.5 amps, 1750 watts (per tank), NEMA 5-15P

I've seen the power cord. It is a 120v 15a plug, and the cord is not very heavy.

I don't get it. :? The current should be 29.167a.

Most likely a typo. 14.5 amps per tank is quite plausible.
1. These numbers are in multiple places, so not a typo.

2. The 4.5a number is the total for both tanks, not each.

3. The plug and cord supplies the entire double fryer.

4. The cord is relatively light with a standard 15a plug.

I just watched the video on that page, which says the double unit has two power cords, but I didn't see that on the actual fryer.

I need to call the customer and ask her to check.

Customer just confirmed that her double fryer has a single power cord.

I don't get it. 2 x 1750w = almost 30a. @ 120v.

They are heat pump fryers. 1750W is the thermal output.

Or maybe this is like the 'peak hp' ratings on vacuum cleaners.

Or for a real stretch: 4.5A at 115V is 518W, which is 1765 BTU per hour :)

A puzzling problem indeed.
Maybe it's not 3500W but 350W each! Since it's a two-piece fryer, the demand factor is 75%(table 220.55). 350 x 2/120 x 0.75 = 4.375A!:D

I vote for the BTU angle and a 2x multipler and a 95% power factor.

(120×4.5×3.4121416×2)×0.95 = 3501

ALL double 120v fryers have a separate cord for each tank. They are just two single fryers stuck together. Look at your Katom product details again! Obviously the 3500w is the total for both. It does get closer if you make it BTU. Maybe a translation error at the maufacturer to show up in so many places? Somebody at the home base thinking BTU an W were the same thing?

1750W=14.58A @ 120V. Easy to see how a typo made that 4.5.

Then one got cut off. Even the 208/240V version has two power cords. Look again! Was this a display model? They usually cut power cords off of those.

Easy way to settle this is to plug the cord into a 20A receptacle, put oil in both sides and turn both sides on. Then come back and tell us which indicator lit.
