Senator Robert Kennedy once wrote a book entitled "Why Not the Best?". I never read it but I like the title. Can't we expect a little more intuition on the part of those who are supposedly running or helping run a business?
For instance, if you have a logjam, you could send out a crew with pikes and they could clear it up. But if it keeps on happening in the same spot, you should go out there and see the bottle-neck and do something about it.

I think expecting an applicant to figure how to get a fax to a potential employer is not to much to ask.

You know what else?

If their application looks good I may actually expect them to get into the office for an interview, that may require walking, driving or talking the bus.
 
since i agree with the OP, i'm ging to institute a new program...i'm gong to hire a new 2nd or 3rd yr apprentice every week......but to make it easy on them, not only do they not need to fax me a resume, they don't need to send a resume at all...they also don't have to figure out how to get to work, since attendance is not required...and i'll pay trem via direct deposit, since getting to the bank to deposit a physical check may be inconvenient....

wtf is society coming to? bunch of pansies....

This is just typical of these guys who want everything but will do nothing to get it.

I agree with Iwire, I have no interest in working with them.

I doubt if there is any sort of dark motive behind the company asking for the resume to be faxed.

It's probably what they have done before and things worked out well for them and so they keep doing it the same way.
 
I don't have a fax machine, or even my own internet access, but it's still not that hard to fax something if you want to; if the applicant won't take the inititative, they ain't worth it.

The only down side is: I remember going to fax two resum?s that had cover-letters made out to each specific company. I gave them to the clerk with the fax numbers written down next to the name of each company. The clerk then faxed each resum? to the wrong company. Needless to say, I didn't hear back from either employer.... :mad: :roll:

Hey guys I have to say I use myfax.com to send faxes. Reason being is a land line is ~$35 per month. So using the online service is much easier and cheaper $10 per month. I use my cell phone for everything else.
 
Exactly what kind of "resume" would any contractor requesting one expect from a 2nd year helper anyway?

I think LawnMowerGuy was pointing out that you won't exactly find someone with a fine arts background applying for a job in the electrical trade. ;) I'm sure like anything there are exceptions, but generally speaking, not so much.
 
Course my experience with employers that just want to be spammed with faxed resumes has been poor. So.. I probably wouldn't fax one unless I was really hungry. If a place is reputable, they should be proud enough to put their company name in their add ad you can go in and talk to them in person. Doesn't mean that if you're hungry and you need a job you shouldn't go find a fax machine though : )
