Im really surprised at the amount of people 'rooting' for dewalt. I mentioned dewalt on another forum and dang near got chewed out. Seems they are a "red" crowd. Anyway, I have thousands of dollars of DW tools, some get used daily, some only come out when needed ex. jigsaw. But 1 battery works on all ~30 tools. You cant beat that with a stick! I have 1 charger on site that my helper and I use, and it does it all - from my 7.2 screwdriver to our 18v XRP's and my 18v NANO's I dont "baby" my tools, but I do take care of them, after all, without them im not much use in the field. I do have a bad habbit of buying the newest on the market, so at any given time, I have new and old looking tools. I got a new dewalt today actually. I love tools, and I enjoy my job way more than any human should. It just goes hand in hand.

Ill shutup now. :D

Not the flashlights! so keep that in mind.

The flashlights are EASY to modify to make the nano's fit though. You just need to clip off 2 little tabs in the battery socket area.

This one though:

You need to be VERY careful about taking the head off. there are 2 little ball bearings that make the click sound when you swivel the head. If they come out, its a PITB to get them back in. So just a heads up.

DeWalt's use NiCad until you get the top of the line. NiCads are really bad. Ryobi's use NiMH or LI. Ryobi is now the parent company of Milwaukee Tools. They bought them for the tough technology.

When ever I work for corporations and they send tools I get sent DeWalts as hammer drills and the first thing I do is send them back because the won't last in the hard environment I put my crews to work in. Try hammer drilling 24 bays 4 holes each in old 8000 psi concrete. You won't get 6 holes before the Dewalts drop the charge.

Ask them to send new bits with the drill motors:smile:

Bought two more drills today, both DeWalt....12v compact 1/2"....and the
7.2v screwdriver. This will relieve my 18v hammer drill and batteries a bit,as I've been using it for everything..It acted like it was going to "shell out" the low gear the other day while running a hole saw for a 2 1/2KO, as I didnt have a KO cutter. It locked up, couldnt get it out of gear, and it sounded like gear problems....Finally got unstuck and it seems to be fine now....

Okay I'll be the oddball I use Rigid 18V tools and for some reason have no problem keeping batteries or tools from disappearing on job sites maybe because every other contractor in this area uses dewalt. Seriously i can't complain about either brand.

I once read that the Ford Escort is the #1 stolen car for salvaging for parts.

Not that I'm comparing Ridgid tools with Escorts. Or am I?

I had my DeWalt refurbished for $90. Came back with all new parts, inside and out. Just had the origional case. Works great!

I proudly use Ryobi. I have never had a Ryobi stolen. No one wants them. I just bought two of the "old" style 18v batteries for 40 bucks. They were state of the art 4 years ago, and that seemed fine for me "way back then".

The whole drill 18v is like 50 bucks with one battery.Add in the other two batteries for a total of 3 batteries and a drill. That is the price the elite pay for one 18v high end battery, if they are lucky.

I probably change batteries more than the next guy. I can live with that. There are very few days when I need to change the battery twice.

For rough I use a hole hawg. Love Milwaukee. Bought my dad a Milw cordless. But his won't get stolen.

Ok, I do very little resi, and if I do I use a hawg as well....but your everyday drill...what is it. cordless or corded......and what kind?
Cordless! Hope that's simple enough.
I have a cheapo Ryobi, and the battery has been good for three years now.;)
The new drills aren't great at all in my opinion!

I returned the Ridgid and Milwaukee 18 volt lithium powered drills. Now I have a Makita 18 Volt lithium (the battery doesn't last long), a couple 12v Milwaukee's, and a couple 18v Ryobi's. The older Ryobi was worth it's dollar--the battery being flexible between other 18v drills, or saws.

I went from Panasonic to DeWalt. Had DeWalts whole set up, hammerdrill, circle saw, flashlight, sawsall, jigsaw...used them for years. Then went to help an old boss on a job and he had just bought the Rigid system with lifetime warranty.....NICE!!!
I went out the next week and the lifetime promo was over...bummer...went ahead and bought the setup....have not had any probs for about 5 years now....I'm not real easy on my tools either, I make them work for me, I respect them though....still using the original batterys. Bought the Rigid 12v microdriver ealier this year...will buy another one for Xmas....oh YEA!!!

The job dictates what set up I have going at the time....small job, cordless....bigger job, corded. No hole hawg, still using a DeWalt 1/2" bought 10 or so years ago...

I use Rigid 18v alsoand have for about 2yrs have had 1 battery replaced for just shipping cost around $20.00 I think.suppoes to be a life time warr. They hold a good charge and recharge in 45 min. and automatic refresh also got a good deal on the first set i brought can do a 3 room addition with a paddle bit on one battery!
