What size battery do they suggest for the 2,000 watt ? This is some serious amperage.What size wire did they suggest to use ? I am looking at it as a backup for huricanes.Would a full size frig run of it ? Keeping it charged would be easy part

More like how many batteries.

For hurricanes I think generators is where it's at.

Edit: I'd have to look it up but I think car batteries are around, maybe, 60 amp hours?

What i had in mind was being able to run generator maybe 4 hours on 4 hours off and be able to keep some fans or lights going.Truckers use 4 batteries and can run them 12 volt frigs no problem.Flying J sells them.I can't see how one standard 60 amp bat could hold up.Perhaps 4 marine deep cycle batteries.

It will still drain your batteries to a useless level overnight if you forget to turn it off. there is an attachment for the frig plug that will shut it off if the voltage drops below 10 volts. that's still enough to start your truck

Most inverters will auto shut down at 10 volt's anyway.

Keep in mind that If you use all deep cycle battery's you will destroy them, charging them directly from the vehicle alternator.
Almost all alternators charge at 14.2 volts at the max current they can output, This will over charge a deep cycle battery.
You will need a current limiter/voltage regulator which can be purchased at most RV supply centers. But deep cycle battery's will handle the cycling much better than regular car battery's.

I would expect somewhere around $100 bucks but I cheated, I went to a junk yard and riped some out of a wrecked RV's. It was part of the AC charging unit that plugs into the land supply when in an RV park. the vehicle supply from the charging system of the vehicle connects to one set of terminals and the battery's connect to another.
I was able to get three of them to do all the battery's

I did have 6 gel-cells but I picked up 4 more and now have 10.
I had to make a nichrome wire on a ceramic spool for a resistor to prevent to much load on the charging system. you could cook on the resistor sometimes.

5 to 10 times what they cost at a not RV or Boat place. :D

Some handy info:

A silicon diode drops about .6 volts. If you build your own isolator you might be able to take advantage of that when working out the charging system numbers.

You should test it's actual value if it's at all critical.
