They didn't single out the grounded conductor, you could run any conductor that way.

So we have a 14/2 wg run for a switchleg. The EI calls you on the missing grounded conductor. You now run a 14 thhn outside of the cable assembly to the switch box. Now we have a NEC compliant install???????

At best it will look like some of the spaggetti pictures we have seen posted.:grin: For the EC that loops switch box to switch box with his feed it won't be a problem .I see more that run ceiling box to ceiling box in new work. I am inclined to agree with Jim in Tampa. Industry driven.

I forgot something. You could not use THHN. Read the commentary in 300.3(A).

That thought didn't even occur to me. I was assuming an additional cable was ran, or some other chapter 3 wiring method; not just a conductor.
