I have bought two of these and they are garbage http://www.united-states-flag.com/h...FHF0_JcFXXxPCAZLgI9VyRd7UxeflDmYmJRoCv6Tw_wcBfirst ,one lasted a year, just bought another one and it lasted a month, long enough not to be able to return it. Does anyone know of a good quality system or have links to buy parts to make my own setup? Or maybe I could use the existing solar panel and light fixture, maybe I can add a controller and a bigger battery? The biggest problem is most solar lights wont stay lit long enough and die before sunrise and people complain about the flag not being lit, this is in a county park. Any help is greatly appreciated!

To manufacture or install?
Install. I found all the less expensive ones. I'd look at something better if there is one.

New school and they cut the receptacles for the busses, and the flag pole light to save money. The recepts we've done. It will take boring to get power to the flag pole then surface raceway on the two year old building. Looking for options.

It was the best one I could find, it is right on the beach so a year seemed not so bad until the next one died so quick, then I realized it was junk.
The problem with every other one I have seen is they just don't stay on long enough.
Possibly your best solution would be to take a well built but short time unit and double the battery and panel size.
One way to do that would be to buy two, parallel the lamp leads, and use only one lamp. Possibly with diode isolation?

What happened to taking the flag down at night?

As long as it is lighted it is perfectly acceptable, however it should be brought in during bad weather.

The flag of the United States for the purpose of this chapter shall be defined according to title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1, Section 1 and Section 2 and Executive Order 10834 issued pursuant thereto.

§6. Time and occasions for display

It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.

The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed.

Yes Bob, I know.

What I was getting at was instead of trying to figure a way to light the flag, why not just take it down? That's what our schools did, and it was real cool to be picked to take the flag down. Two kids got picked each day. We would get out of class a few minutes early, go take the flag down (without letting it touch the ground), fold it and properly escort it to its place inside the building. Everyone had to learn all the rules of caring for the flag just in case you got picked to do flag duty.

I've seen some that are so large that raising and lowering them every day would not be practical. Usually they are lit from the ground by several lights surrounding the pole.
