I wonder why

Did a quick service call yesterday.

HO didn't have central air, so she called HVAC company.

They came right over, and found a blown 60a fuse in the main panel.

They replaced both, and then couldn't figure out why they couldn't get any power at all.

Anyone wanna take a stab at it?

Do the labels wrap all the way around? Looks like the fuses are still making contact on the non-stab side of the holder.

I like the master electrician name brand. Obviously the stock boy did not have a clue, just knew putting the tag on the copper did not cover any of the marketing test.
 
Tell me you have not seen that done at least once before.

Nope, honest to God. Market Cross Tavern, Shippensburg, PA. It was called The King's Inn when I saw the fuse situation mentioned. The chef was rather proud of his "fix".

In a home I found tin foil wrapped 30 amp cartridges fuse feeding an electric water heater that had been modified to run both elements at the same time.

The home was owned by a family of welders, the shop was in the garage and they where proud they did all their own wiring.

Of course I was there after a small electrical fire got the inspector to have the meter yanked.

once on a 15 ton RTU. HVAC guy called and said this thing had already blown 15 fuses. I got there and he showed me the safeflex style switch in the main switchboard on the floor was a pile of fuses. He said the unit would run for about 3 minutes and then shutdown on phase loss. He would check and the B phase would be dead. He told me he had put an amprobe on all the phases and everything was good. This guy had bought every fuse the local suppliers had and had exhausted everything he could think of. Out of curiosity I checked one of the "bad" fuses and it was good. To make a long story short the fuse clip on B phase was loose and every time he plugged a new fuse in it would work for a little bit and then quit. I felt sorry for the guy because he had been there for 2 1\2 days going up and down the roof ladder in 100 plus degree weather
 
Nothing like a fast acting fuse on a motor, unless of course you add the tape.

When I first started business I had an old '66 chevy van that the smoke just started rolling out from under the dash. Pulled over quick & the insulation was just bubbling around one of the wires. Amazing what a gum wrapper around the fuse will do. Oh, yea, don't grap those wires and yank em out with your bare hands.

Way back when, when I worked in an auto parts store, I had to spend a few hours one night standing in the parking lot holding a fire extinguisher, because some guy was trying to wrap a fuse (I can't remember if it was ATC or a glass cartridge fuse) in the "foil" wrap from a stick of gum. Every time he stuck it in, it would start to smoke, so he'd pull it out and adjust the foil, then stick it back in. I kept trying to tell him it wouldn't work, and he kept telling me it had to, cause he kept blowing fuses. After an hour, I gave up and took the fire extinguisher inside and left him to his business. The store manager was worried that if his car caught fire in the parking lot, the parts store might be held liable.
