Ditto on that Don, as simple and short as that statement was it sticks with me.
At the time he stopped me in my tracks, he was right.
At the time he stopped me in my tracks, he was right.
He used to make me down right angry, red faced and spiting.
I ended up learning a lot of things and I still miss having him around.![]()
Really? Why is that?
Honestly?
Because he popped holes in many of my longly held beliefs without mercy.
Bennie passed away a few years ago. Charlie B posted his obit but it seems to be lost in one of the forum upgrades.

PALMER, BENNIE RAY Bennie R. Palmer of Milwaukie, died peacefully July 28, 2004, while supported by family and friends after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Bennie was born December 10, 1932, in Wilson, Okla., and married his wife, Lois J. Palmer, 22 years later. Bennie and Lois planned to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary December 24th of this year. Together, Bennie and Lois raised five children, four of whom reside in the Portland area. During his life Bennie served our country while enlisted with the United States Marine Corps as an AV electrician and continued his work as an electrician for the balance of his career through the IBEW Local # 11 and later, as an electrical inspector for the City of Tigard. Survivors include wife, Lois; son, Billy; daughters, Lynda Gentile; Judy P. Adler, and Raelynn P. Rackerby; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, three sisters, and numerous extended family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oregon Cancer Society in honor of Bennie.
On behalf of the Moderators and the over 15,000 Members of the Mike Holt NEC Forum, of which Bennie was the single most prolific contributor, I would like to pass on our deepest condolences to his family. When news of Bennie?s passing was posted on the Forum, there was a flood of expressions of sympathy and loss. Most of the members who posted a reaction to the news simply stated that he had helped them learn, that he will be missed, and that our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
Bennie brought out the professional in all of us. While many of the younger members are struggling with the ?How do I do this? questions and comments, Bennie offered the ?This is why we do this and this is how it came to be that way? perspective. It was not that we always agreed with his viewpoints, for often we did not, and often it took several exchanges before we each understood what the other was trying to convey. But the fact that he was willing to take the time to share his views, and to explain the basis for his viewpoints, is the reason that he was so well regarded and respected by all members of the Forum.
The NEC Forum is an electronic medium of information exchange, with members all over the country, and indeed all over the world. I find it amazing that Bennie could have touched so many, despite having personally met so few. I suspect, however, that if I had had the honor of knowing him personally, I would not have been amazed.

I believe Bennie's daughter let us on the forum know that he had passed. I can only echo the sentiments of others that I too miss him. I loved the arguments with him and still think about him from time to time.. . . There was a post from a family member about it. . .
Okay so all you guys were inspired by Bernie. So of us may like to get inspired also. Are his posts still available to read-- what was his forum name?
Me too. I have read over some of his posts from time to time, and wish I'd had the opportunity to talk with him firsthand. I think it speaks volumes for him that several years after his absence from this forum he is still remembered and missed.I guess I'm a youngster here.
Thanks Roger I have already enjoyed a few of the threads he started.
