If "Bennie Palmer" sounds familiar...

Ditto on that Don, as simple and short as that statement was it sticks with me.

At the time he stopped me in my tracks, he was right.

I have a lot of respect for Bennie. I came to know him well, and he helped me through some rough times when I was laid off 5 years ago. RIP Benny.

"I am sure there are some who may have the same feelings ..."

LOL, Year 1 to 2 for me ..... such a flash in the pan ...

I remember I had recently joined the forum and replied to a thread, cant even remember the subject and Bennie replied that he agreed and that he thought I made a good point. Sure made my day:smile:

PALMER, BENNIE RAY Bennie R. Palmer of Milwaukie, died peacefully July 28, 2004, while supported by family and friends after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Bennie was born December 10, 1932, in Wilson, Okla., and married his wife, Lois J. Palmer, 22 years later. Bennie and Lois planned to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary December 24th of this year. Together, Bennie and Lois raised five children, four of whom reside in the Portland area. During his life Bennie served our country while enlisted with the United States Marine Corps as an AV electrician and continued his work as an electrician for the balance of his career through the IBEW Local # 11 and later, as an electrical inspector for the City of Tigard. Survivors include wife, Lois; son, Billy; daughters, Lynda Gentile; Judy P. Adler, and Raelynn P. Rackerby; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, three sisters, and numerous extended family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oregon Cancer Society in honor of Bennie.

I took the liberty of submitting the following to the ?Guest Book? that is provided (for the benefit of the family) by The Oregonian on-line newspaper:
On behalf of the Moderators and the over 15,000 Members of the Mike Holt NEC Forum, of which Bennie was the single most prolific contributor, I would like to pass on our deepest condolences to his family. When news of Bennie?s passing was posted on the Forum, there was a flood of expressions of sympathy and loss. Most of the members who posted a reaction to the news simply stated that he had helped them learn, that he will be missed, and that our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Bennie brought out the professional in all of us. While many of the younger members are struggling with the ?How do I do this? questions and comments, Bennie offered the ?This is why we do this and this is how it came to be that way? perspective. It was not that we always agreed with his viewpoints, for often we did not, and often it took several exchanges before we each understood what the other was trying to convey. But the fact that he was willing to take the time to share his views, and to explain the basis for his viewpoints, is the reason that he was so well regarded and respected by all members of the Forum.

The NEC Forum is an electronic medium of information exchange, with members all over the country, and indeed all over the world. I find it amazing that Bennie could have touched so many, despite having personally met so few. I suspect, however, that if I had had the honor of knowing him personally, I would not have been amazed.

Thanks for finding and posting that Bob.

I really miss him.

Propably a good thing for some on here when we lost our icon Bennie my post went from every night to a few a week. :)

. . . There was a post from a family member about it. . .
I believe Bennie's daughter let us on the forum know that he had passed. I can only echo the sentiments of others that I too miss him. I loved the arguments with him and still think about him from time to time.

I guess I'm a youngster here. I remember his name mentioned a bit, but he passed about 9 months before I joined, which was on May 1, '05. Where does that put me on the timeline?

Okay so all you guys were inspired by Bernie. So of us may like to get inspired also. Are his posts still available to read-- what was his forum name?

I tried to find a post but it was longer ago than I remembered. A few members were discussing grounding of a separate structure. Somewhere in the conversation the definition of separate structure came up. To make a long story short Bennie quipped something along the line of if you have a garage 7' from a house it's separate. If you nailed a 2 x 4 to the garage and the house it wasn't. We began referring to this as the 2 x 4 bonding jumper.

I guess I'm a youngster here.
Me too. I have read over some of his posts from time to time, and wish I'd had the opportunity to talk with him firsthand. I think it speaks volumes for him that several years after his absence from this forum he is still remembered and missed.

BTW, if anyone wonders from time to time why old threads are closed, it's primarily out of respect for Bennie, at least that's why it started. It seemed inappropriate for someone to unwittingly respond to one of his posts.

Well, I've been a member for about two years and up until
today had never heard of "Bennie". I just read some of his
posts and all I can say is that I am very amazed by his knowledge
and understanding. I just printed out a quote from him and is now
mounted above my desk.

I wish I'd had the opportunity to know him.

It was really fun, interesting, and educational to discuss topics with Bennie. I had the oportunity to speak with him once on the phone. I remember being worried when I didn't see a post from him for a day or two, and then he would pop back up and go strong again for another few weeks. When the post came across that Bennie was near the end and would likely never post again, I knew that I along with everyone familiar with him on the Forum would never be the same, because of him. The same holds true for many, many other members of this Forum.

This is a great community. We are all the better for it.

By the way, did we ever settle on a Forum Sticker / Bumper Sticker????

Thanks Roger I have already enjoyed a few of the threads he started.

I locked it in favorite places too, I did notice that some of the Images were "x" 'd out, and will not show, is this my CPU, or software transitions that caused this?
