So if this is a SPST:

You would call that a DPST?

Gentran used to/still does make an inlet box with the 5-15 flanged inlet. I could not find it on their website however. I have seen it in the Northern Equipment catalog in the past though. :confused:
 
Seems to be no different than hooking up any small generator via a transfer switch & flanged inlet. The neutral & ground always end up bonded at the Service entrance panel.

With the exception of the OFF position for a xfer sw.

That's my take on it.

I've done plenty of portable genny setups that way. HO has a portable genny they want to be able to power up certain circuits when the utility goes out.

I put a L14-30 or L14-20 flanged inlet in a usable location and run 10/3 to a QO panel next to the main. This panel has the circuits we've determined to be on the genny. Two 2-poles have a QO2DTI transfer mechanism to toggle between utility & genny.

What the OP has done here is take this down to a single circuit, replacing the panel & 2 breakers with a 3-way.

You can get a flanged inlet in just about any NEMA configuration. Some may be hard to actually lay your hands on, especially during a power outage.

Most portable gen.s have the N/G tied together at the gen., if the HO leaves the cord

plugged in at both ends neutral current can flow on the metal parts connected to the

furnace. The neutral wuold be grounded to the furnace.
