You have got to be kidding....

nope! latest was a 6 unit strip-mall. (6) 200 amp disconnects with 150 amp fuses feeding interior panels. EC had to re-pull 3/0 Cu

2. If the fusible disconnect is rated 200 amps, the wire must aslo be rated 200 amps. (regardless of load or drawgs, "it will take a 200 amp fuse, it needs 200 amp wire"

Is this an official, written amendment?

I have heard this one too.

Chris

wow . EC didn't call up chief inspector and fight city hall on that ?

I've got a doozie that I ran into a few weeks ago:
"Do me a favor - don't call me all the way out here on a Friday"

1. no matter what type of outdoor receptacles are available from a deck situated 1 step from grade, there still must be a receptacle installed above "grade = dirt" as opposed above deck=wood
That is what the code rule says. It is not an "inspector" rule.

'08 to me, somewhat clarifys, the receptacle is accessible "while standing at grade". Perhaps I'm wrong, but I see nothing prohibiting it from being "over" deck flooring and not nesessarily over "dirt". I use the outdoor outlet far more when I'm on the deck and if I need to reach it from the grass, it's within reach.

As I show up on a job site with a code book in hand, often I hear an electrician in a shaky voice- "Put the book away." I reply, "Would you rather that I make it up as I go along?":D

As an inspector, I will say that all of you are right, that is an inspector that is not willing to site the code section on his deficiency list - is still in training or if not, shouldn't be an inspector. What do they think they are doing to their credibility when they put on their poker face and stare for a while then eventually forced into folding?

-Any ceiling mounted box for a light must be the fan rated
-Only one bathroom per 20 amp circuit even when only serving receptacles
-Must have a pullchain light receptacle over the panel
-Must have #4 to a ground rod
-Every non-counter receptacle in the kitchen must be GFCI protected
-Every circuit checked for voltage drop, and failed if below 5%
In Wisconsin it is code (Com 16) that all cieling boxes must be fan rated.

Gus,
I agree with you, but CMP 2 does not. You must have access to the required receptacle while standing on the ground.
2-231 Log #1624 NEC-P02 Final Action: Reject
(210.52(E))
____________________________________________________________
Submitter: James Tente, City of Naperville
Recommendation: Revise text to read as follows:
For a one-family dwelling and each unit of a two-family dwelling that is at
grade level, at least one receptacle outlet accessible while standing at grade
level and not more than 2.0 m (6 1/2 ft) above grade shall be installed at the
front and back of the dwelling where the dwelling unit is located at grade level
and provided with individual exterior entrance/egress, at least one receptacle
outlet accessible. While standing from on grade level and not more than 2.0 m
(6 1/2 ft) above grade shall be installed. See 210.8(A)(3).
Substantiation: Present language is vague. The interpretation of ?accessible?
can vary greatly and is commonly misinterpreted. The panel statement for 2005
ROP 2-236 (Log #3197) clarifies the meaning of ?accessible? and should be
included in code text for clarity.
Panel Meeting Action: Reject
Panel Statement: The panel reaffirms it?s previous position that ?at grade?
means ?while standing on grade?.
See the panel action and statement on
Proposal 2-230.
Number Eligible to Vote: 12
Ballot Results: Affirmative: 11 Negative: 1
Explanation of Negative:
WEBER, R.: The panel should have accepted this proposal as submitted,
when we consider the full range of the persons using the code simplified
language as recommended will solve a lot of confusion of the requirement
being encountered out in the field. The addition of the term ?while standing? at
grade will make it clear that a receptacle installed on an elevated porch, that is
accessible by stairs from grade, would not meet the requirements of section
210.52(E).

I believe he said it was.

I thought that was what Gus said. If you can reach the receptacle while standing on grade then it is okay that the receptacle is over a deck. The recep. does not need to be over grade, IMO.

I agree .

lol...I guess as an inspector I should post a list of what some "Electricians" TRY to get away with.....or what they try to hide or what they grossly get wrong on a daily basis....nah.....better not.

These would be VERY interesting to hear.

I don't think it's a bad rule necessarily, but to enforce it as code without a written rule is just plain wrong.

does that include closets, bathrooms, and hallways? do smoke detectors have to be mounted on fan rated boxes also? that seems pretty stupid and wasteful
