One of my friends had a EE professor who said we will only be teaching you about 5% of what you will need to know to do your job.
That's just...depressing.My experience with the old timers where I first worked was that the mistakes they made became the "standard". It took me years to get them to stop jumpering N to G at the control panels.
Even "electricians" can only learn so much in school environment. Experience in the real world those first few months is where you really learn in most cases. The schooling hopefully helps you understand what you are experiencing a little easier. One of my friends had a EE professor who said we will only be teaching you about 5% of what you will need to know to do your job.
I remember hearing stories about child prodigies who graduated college or wrote symphonies at 12 years old or whatever. What I don't remember hearing were any stories of how hugely successful they became as adults.Even "electricians" can only learn so much in school environment. When I finished trade school I could have passed any the license exams. That did not mean I was ready to have any those licenses yet regardless what I may have thought at the time.
Just read a story recently about a 12 year old girl that graduated from a college. Yes she probably is smart but no she is not ready to take on the world with whatever her degree is good for. She isn't even old enough to have all the social skills needed to make it out there and maybe doesn't even have the experience to be able to make common sense decisions for certain things yet. Probably can not live by herself yet if she had to as she likely lacks the skills to do that. Mom/dad probably took care of lots of life skills needs while she focused on academics.
