Insulated Staples

Question. I know that you can use non-insulated staples when you use a staple gun. But is it listed in the code book that you can't use non insulated staples or is it up to the AHJ?

We always use bang-in-with-a-hammer, non-insulted staples for securing cables.

Interesting. Today was the first time that I have ever done that. My boss had me remove the insulation from the staples. I haven't done that before.

I remove the insulation when i install MC, just because it makes it look neater. Other than that, the ones we have already have the insulation on it, so i leave it there.

I like using the insulated staples due to Arc fault breakers, lessens the chance of cutting into the wire if driven too tight, probally why Mass. is requiring it now.

They've been required in Mass. long before AFCI's came on the scene.
