i am giving serious thought to buying an ipad. I think it would be a great tool for selling . i was at a customers home and she was wanting ideas for lighting fixtures I was using my iphone to pull up pictures but the screen size is way to small. Is anyone using an ipad to help sell jobs ?

I'm not, but I love the idea (I have an ipad1 and ipad2). You would probably need to spring for a 3g model and pay about $30-$40 a month for 3G access. IMO it would be worth it.

Yeah, but the ipad is for wifi, so your have to go thru setup and get the homeowners network passwords each time (per household) to use. as said above, get something that is 3g and pay for your 3g service yourself.

Ipad

Ipad

I have been using the Ipad 2 since it came out for business. Love it. use it for notes, drawlings, everything. Great tool. You can set up to log into your office desk top also.
As others said make sure you get 3G version.....

Yep...I don't know which app they used, but they had a card swipe, and I had to sign my name on the pad with my finger, which was a little weird, but it worked. Receipt was emailed to me.

You could also get the wifi model and set up your smartphone as a wifi hotspot. It cost $30 a month for a 4G hotspot through verizon. On a side rant I think this is a rip off. If they want to charge for data usage I'm fine with that, just don't charge me to unlock a feature of a phone I own. (rant over) The other option is to root your phone and set up a hotspot for free. (I'm not sure this is exactly legal)

I agree with your rant. Verizon shutdowns those apps as fast as they appear (the best reason to root your Android phone). But as MJW has suggested you could use your smart phone as a hotspot and connect the iPad via wifi.

How about a laptop with a dongle?

The IPad is much faster with more usable screen space than a laptop, also you just leave it on, it goes to sleep if you don't use it. You just slide your finger on the unlock to bring it back to life, aand instantly get on the net. Also has close to a 10 hour battery life.

it's called squareup, and it works on the pad, and the phone both.. there is a dongle that plugs into the
headphone jack, and it works excellently.

money is in your account the next morning.

you can buy the dongle at an app store, for $10 and they credit your account the $10, or they
will send you one for free.

i've used it a few times, and the first time i used it for a card that i didn't swipe, they limit you
to $1k in any seven day period, and hold the balance for 30 days... eh?

i found this out after a $3k charge, but i sent them an email, and asked them to up the amount,
and they bumped it to $5k, and the money showed up the next morning on schedule.
they said to send them an email if i needed it bigger than that.

it's worked seamlessly for me.

i've got it pointed to a checking account that i use for an impound account, so any charge backs
or silly stuff like that, it doesn't mess up my business account.

I have both and my experience suggests otherwise. On both counts.

But I accept that that you may know better than I.

And seasons greetings t you.

I have both too, a net book, a mini tower, and a tablet, the iPad is much faster on the same network. I was the hospital today visiting my brother in law, and was able to search for a restaurant quicker than his girlfriend could with his laptop, and she was already logged into the network. I think here in the US we have to load too much garbage onto our computers when we download Something. The net book looses half the screen to info bars, and the iPad screen image is much sharper and easier to see. I hear they are way ahead of us in Europe as far as the Internet goes.

Your experience differs from mine.
C'est la vie.

We agree to disagree.:)! Speed varies greatly from manufacture to manufacture, most companies will not spend the money for faster computers if they do not have too. Our pm's have the iPads ,but us peons have to use the continually crashing HP's. (not HP's fault though, it's our custom program)
