For a company to say we aren't paying you Overtime, we will give you comp time on the books? So for every hour of OT that you work they will give you 1.5 hours of straight time on the books that you can comp when you want. I just don't see how this can be legal without even giving us a choice. I personally wouldn't want the comp time and would rather have the extra money. What are your thoughts and does your company do this?

I'd rather have the comp. time. When I worked for OT pay, it seemed I had to pay so much more for taxes. The money I saw on my paycheck didn't make it worth it.
That's only true up to a certain number of OT hours, I think its something like, anything more than 12 hours just isnt worth it because at that point they take out even more taxes. At least that's what I've been told.

Maybe at one time but I do not think this applies today. Comp time would never do me I have always worked 60+ hours a week, several years without a vacation. When would I use comp time?

Why would you want so many hours ? You need to have a life.

I know that feeling! I worked seven days, ten+ hours a day for 5 months, holidays and all. We normally had some holidays off. I got a day off, spring time, middle of the week. I went straight to the auto parts store to get a new battery for my boat so I could go to the lake. A guy pulled out in front of me and totaled my truck. I spent my day off finding a new ride....

Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me! If you remember this you are old!

I hope it was a ride to the lake. I'm glad you were not hurt. That would have really sucked.

I have a choice here too, but I also do not get double time for holidays or sundays. I don't know that it's not kosher as long as they give you a benifit. The real trouble (the company my wife works for is a prime example) is that if you need to work overtime, they are not very willing to give you time off.

Some us work to live, others live to work.If i cant make enough in 40 hours to live nice then something is wrong.

I agree, when I started working for that company it was 40 hours a week. Then things changed, It was first shift only and they started 3 shifts. I was on call 24-7. Sundays became our routine maintenance day, then holidays became our routine maintenance day's.

That sounds like the one and only reason I am no longer a factory electrician. No respect for a man's time, in a nutshell. Can't a fella have a day off, once in a while?

Thanks, I wasn't hurt. "The day off finding a new ride" was finding a new used truck.

Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me

We figured she was rich, loaded to the hilt
And we figured she had class like the Vanderbilts
'Cause we had heard for years how she was so well reared
How was we to know they meant the way she was built

Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me
