push the issue push the issue a table without a base is a table bottomline. An island mounted is well an island and requires recerptacles as per NEC add wheels it is movable so back to where i was at a floor recep that if the homeowner wanted a island recep on a gfci circuit all they have to do is plug it in.Who here has an articale that doesn`t allow that

Re: kitchen island outlets

You guy's are now starting to make me proud. My carpenter friend Lester can put together an 8' long island with corian or granite top, all cabinets around the base, knife drawers, you name it, and manage to fix it so the toe kick is about 1/8" off the floor. They roll when pushed hard enough. The first time I saw one was when I came back to a slab job to trim out and saw an island where there wasn't one when I roughed in. I about had a heart attack. Lester just laughed and pushed it out to the next room. Why not just get me to provide wiring for a regular island, I don't know, except this guy is a really penny pincher type. By the way, the inspector was already familiar with Lester's rolling "tables" and didn't bat an eye when he came to final.

Re: kitchen island outlets

What about the floor recep. that could fit under an island and get utilized if wanted.Strategically placed receptacles within the cabinet that would be used for appliances(remember this island is on wheels so no receptacles are actually required)
If the wiring method within the cabinet is code compliant and the means of attachment to the floor plug are also within the guidelines of the nec.Are there any articles that would prohibit this?

So you must not do any old work. Or do you hire a carpenter to cut in your boxes?

Re: kitchen island outlets

I have a similar related question. Since the option to locate an outlet below the counter on the island was made to allow kitchen appliances to be used on the counter, and the appliance manufacturers only use a two-foot power cord, where do you usually locate the outlet. The Code allows up to 12 inches below the surface. I typically place it up close to the top, it's less unsightly and gives more cord length to locate the appliance. Of course of the island has drawers, that creates another problem.

Any thoughts?

I was looking at placing a 2? round grommet in the 12 inch overhang of my granite kitchen island countertop as far away from where the stools will be. I would then place an electrical outlet in the cabinetry under it. The cord would run through the grommet and plug into the outlet. I could even use a same piece of plugmold instead. Any spill would drop straight to the floor.

This would keep the wires within a 6 inch distance of the outlet and be safer.
I also thought maybe using the plug cut from the hole to fill the hole when not in use.
(If I ever use it.)
