Who needs TIVO? Theres a rerun right now.
Nobody "needs" it but it sure makes the tv watching experience alot easier. I can watch an hour long show in about 40 minutes due to the fact that I can fast forward through all the commercials. I love it.

What about no ground in the smurf??? They clearly pulled black and white. Are the boxes bonded to the steel or something?
Bro I'm sure they pulled a ground. I watched the show and didn't notice just a black and white wire, but I'm sure they did. Think about it.

I checked it on the DVR.

smoke detectors

Wouldn't a building like that have low voltage multi wire smokies tied all together into a huge control panel?

but I thought they were feeding floor boxes.

It was feeding into the deck into the smurf stubs but a lot of that stuff was in the ceiling as opposed to the floor.

The only place I would see a need to run smurf to a ceiling box would be in a garage or some area without a dropped ceiling. It looked to me that they were on a residential level.

That's what leads me to believe they are floor boxes.

Yes they wee residential and most likely there won't be a dropped ceiling hence the deck boxes.

It looked to me like they ran the stuff EVERYWHERE. Even with a dropped ceiling it's much easier/cheaper to slip it in the deck. It would save a lot of overhead conduit work.

The last condo I went into did not have ugly concrete ceilings dotted with boxes, plumbing pipes , cables, etc. It had a dropped ceiling hence the floor or deck boxes.

I'm sure that those condos don't have dropped ceilings. They need to save space which is why it's a deck job in the first place. They do have bulkheads around the perimeter of some of the rooms to run the duct and plumbing and some electrical if need be but I can assure you that it's not a dropped ceiling.

They last condo high rise I saw didn't have dropped ceilings. They did however put hat channel up and then sheetrock but only due to the fact that some lighting deck boxes didn't get set in proper place so that was the solution to that problem. And I've seen plenty of condos with concrete ceilings, and they are very high end condos. Not some slummy ones.

I have wired condos, but have not ran smurf to deck boxes ilo of mc or conduit. I don't see how you would gain by having to transition. I wish I could see the completed job.

could one of our LA members, please go into the building and drop some devices to find out what they were wiring?

If there were going to be a dropped ceiling then it would be alot easier to not run boxes in the deck. But that's the main reason that they do it at least for resi highrises is because if it's a deck then they don't have a dropped ceiling because there's usually not enough room for that.

I hear you. We have plenty around here like that too. I'm going to go back and check to see if that is the case on the show.

These condos do have lots of dropped ceilings. It does look like in some areas the deck is the ceiling so I'm with you on that. I'm used to hat channel in those areas but I guess they can add a couple of inches in ceiling height and save on labor and materials that way.
