nope....here is how you price it though....take your standard price, with you supplying the material, and then ask him for his material receipts....simply deduct the money he paid for his material from your standard price...then let him know that any missing material will cost him, and there is no warranty on anything...

let him save $3....

i gave a guy a price once who wanted to supply all the material for his new house. i did the exact same thing you recommend; he said that sounded unfair because i would still be getting my material markup and he wouldn't save any money. :D i did not get the job.

I've let the HO supply material before w/ the understanding that I would supply missing items at my standard mark up (20%). They end up burning the roads up to the Box and after a few days either buy everthing in sight or let me supply things from my truck.

However, I never supply lights..what I have is always wrong.

he wouldn't save any money, but you would be able to to pay your overhead and operating expenses, another clueless customer.

These are the type of boneheads who think bringing their own medical supplies to the ER will reduce the bill

I'm very thankful, so far I have not ran into a customer like this. I mostly work for GC's. If I were put in that situation, I would tell them no thank you and walk away.

if i take you up on your offer, it might be sooner rather than later...you have an out of control pie habit...

It may interest you to know that with the upcoming holidays, free pie is /will be at an all time high ....my pie fee may actually be reduced due to the frequency of freebies. :smile:

Of course, after the holidays, the rate goes back up. You, being such a sharp pencil, will have saved the difference to compensate for the post-holiday up charge:cool:

This might be the one time where "making it up in volume" actually works:grin:

Another way to I have found deal with the cheap customer is to offer to show them the parts invoice with prices on it. However I generally fluff the parts order and keep the leftovers. I also pencil in the extra parts used from truck stock. I also add 1/2 HR for calling the inspector, and double the cost of permits ETC.. Lots of "porboys" around here. DENNIS

I did one new house with the HO providing material BIG MISTAKE...
Smaller jobs, they want to buy some wire or boxes, & I'll let em, EVERYTIME they get the WRONG STUFF. It gets old. I won't do it ever again on a big job, and pretty limited on smaller jobs. It's hard explaining to them why you won't let them supply materials. And, I would really like to hear what you guys tell the HO, when they have wire & boxes already there..."Just policy?" Then you go & get the exact same stuff & start to put it in...
