In California where I formerly resided, every EC must have in his or her possession a C-10 license, or employ someone that does. This is the required license for securing permits.
The license is statewide.
However, every JW must be certified by the state and pass a comprehensive exam for the certification. This includes the C-10 license holder unless the license holder is acting in the capacity of EC.
These rules apply to IBEW JW's as well. They must also obtain certification., but not C-10 licensing.
Here in Illinois licensing is local.
The EC must obtain a license for every city, town, village, mud hut county, etc. that he or she wishes to contract in.
No certification is necessary, local or statewide.
Some jurisdictions have testing, some don't, but those that don't usually require that you be licensed in an area that does have testing like Chicago.
When will it all come together?
Being on the Indiana/Illinois border we pay in excess of $1,000.00 a year to maintain licensing in all these area's as Indiana has no statewide licensing either.
Couple that with Chicago and other nearby cuties having their own Electrical Codes, every day is an adventure.
And don't even mention Fire Alarms....
Oh well, I've had my vent. Feel much better now.
