I?m confused; I thought the EC had to have a License not the Electrician doing the work. Or are you saying the Electrician has to have a State certification now. If it?s a union job are the IBEW union members considered certified or license to perform the work?

The EC license is required to pull a permit. The JW license is to prove a QI or QE (quallified individual or employee). The JW card can not pull a permit for work. (At least here in the desert)

Here the IBEW JW card is not recognized as a license so they need to get a seperate license.

I must have missed that detail when I took a WAC update class. But then, I have always had to display my license at my work place. :D Would you happen to know the WAC article number?

Its actually in the RCW not the WAC, heres a link of the new change House bill 1055.

also there is a referrence at the rcw site.

Heres the preceding statement that lead up to this law.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
8 NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. (1) The legislature finds that dishonest
9 construction contractors
sometimes hire workers without proper
10 licenses, certificates, permits, and endorsements to do electrical,
11 plumbing, and conveyance work. This practice gives these contractors
12 an unfair competitive advantage and leaves workers and customers
13 vulnerable.
14 (2) The legislature intends that electricians, plumbers, and
15 conveyance workers be required to have their licenses, certificates,
16 permits, and endorsements and photo identification in their possession
17 while working. The legislature further intends that the department of
18 labor and industries be authorized to require electricians, plumbers,
19 and conveyance workers to wear and visibly display their licenses,

1 certificates, permits, and endorsements while working, and to include
2 photo identification on these documents. These requirements will help
3 address the problems of the underground economy in the construction
4 industry, level the playing field for honest contractors, and protect
5 workers and consumers.

Isn't that just wonderful! Good luck with that one. They have a difficult enough time making sure I wear my hardhat and safety glasses at all times on the jobsite.

. . . . The Master has the only license and he stays in the office or on his boat.

There's a boat I pass every time I ease out the canal at our place in florida called "the jobsite".

its the perfect name; the guy doesn't have to lie about where he is when the GC calls looking for him.

"where am i? I'm on the jobsite. where are you?"

brilliant!

LOL thats a great one.
And i worked for a large company once that i never even met the so called master. Was given a picture of him so that in the remote chance he ever came on job site i would know who he is.
Not really sure how much value to place on a license. Some have one but still know almost nothing. Florida could use something but as is all thats needed is a master to pull permit. That should make you feel real safe. And we do get inspections, most take less than 15 minutes often even less.

Buddy of mine was in the Air Force.
He named his boat "ALERT". Boss would call and ask his wife where he was she would say "He's on Alert sir". Alert is Air Force 24 hour military duty.

In California where I formerly resided, every EC must have in his or her possession a C-10 license, or employ someone that does. This is the required license for securing permits.

The license is statewide.

However, every JW must be certified by the state and pass a comprehensive exam for the certification. This includes the C-10 license holder unless the license holder is acting in the capacity of EC.

These rules apply to IBEW JW's as well. They must also obtain certification., but not C-10 licensing.

Here in Illinois licensing is local.

The EC must obtain a license for every city, town, village, mud hut county, etc. that he or she wishes to contract in.

No certification is necessary, local or statewide.

Some jurisdictions have testing, some don't, but those that don't usually require that you be licensed in an area that does have testing like Chicago.

When will it all come together?

Being on the Indiana/Illinois border we pay in excess of $1,000.00 a year to maintain licensing in all these area's as Indiana has no statewide licensing either.

Couple that with Chicago and other nearby cuties having their own Electrical Codes, every day is an adventure.:D

And don't even mention Fire Alarms....

Oh well, I've had my vent. Feel much better now.
