Going off my other question for closet storage space. NEC mentions that you dont have to meet any clearance from the fixture to the closet storage space if a fixture is identified for that use. I looked up definition of identified in NEC and i am not clear on that. Does anyone has a light fixture recommendation for a light fixture that is listed and also identified for use with in closet storage space?

I believe you are referring to 410.16(C)(5). The only fixture I know that specifically mentions this in their spec sheet is this:

There must be others.

How about the one that i mentioned above? It has a wording which says it is ideal for closets.

There is no mention on the Lithonia website and in any of the literature of 410.16(C)(5), which specifically allows the fixture "to be installed within the closet storage space". It very well may have that listing, however I was unable to find it.

Fixtures that are rated for the closet storage space must say that it is rated for the closet storage space.

This fixture is rated for the closet storage space. It is the closet rod also

The last time I had an opportunity to discuss this with a UL rep, the one Dennis shoes (rod/light) was the only one UL listed to be installed in the "storage space" but that conversation was a year or so ago and there may be something else on the market so listed.

I think this one is:

"BENEFITS

  • ETL Listed to UL 1598 Standards.
  • Meets the requirements of the 2017 National Electrical Code: Articles 410.16A(1)(3), C(1)(3), (5), 410.52, and 410.74 (A)(B).
  • Energy Star rated!
  • For "New" or "Retrofit" applications....

I've wondered about this wording a couple of times, too. (working off 2014 NEC)

I've seen several major, reputable brands have fixtures they call closet lights on their packaging and spec sheets. It seems to me they have "identified" it for this use. Further, it seems to me that the manufacturer is a "other organization concerned with product evaluation." [from Informational Note under NEC definition of "Identified"]

Just my 2¢

The wording can be tricky..a light approved to be used in a closet vs a light approved to be in the closet storage space.

How about the one which was suggested by Lee? It explicitly states it complies with NEC sections? I see that as being identified with in closet storage space.
