Great analogy Marc......Without a GFCI, someone, somday could be "Shakin their Booty". Great song BTW.......

I seem to remember a code change slide when this hit the books (Maybe IAEI, maybe Mike Holt) that showed an bagged ice machine as the example in the slide. "Vend" means dispense, and doesn't necessarily need a money acceptor.
Yes we do- get out your 2008 book, where we added the section I quoted. "For the purpose of this section, the term vending machine means..."mdshunk said:We don't really have a definition of a vending machine.
Never saw one that wasn't 240, so that would exclude GFCI protection on the 210.8(B)(4) basis. It still might be required on a 422.51 basis, BUT.. IF it is required and IF this ATM was made after Jan 1,2005 it will have factory GFCI protection. Very interesting puzzle.electriciangirl said:Would an ATM machine then fit this "definition.?" I will be running a new wire for an indoor ATM. Would you put a GFCI on that?

jerm said:No, it probably doesn't accept payment. (I know some do, but those are getting harder and harder to find!) Anyhow, it has to "dispense products or merchandise." Currency isn't really a product or merchandise. (Do I need to define those terms too?)![]()
