Re: locating direct buried feeder cables

There is many types of instruments available, check the electrical test equipment websites.

The old standby is called a "backhoe" ;) .

A hand-held single-axis gaussmeter will locate the cable if the neutral problem you refer to has resulted in diminished or no neutral current. MSI sells an excellent one for about $190. It is the MSI-95. Try magneticsciences.com/

Re: locating direct buried feeder cables

We have two an older radio locater and a newer one that has a variable frequency adjustment that will locate any cable most with out any connection to it. The older radio locater is the one that I use for lost connections, as I can isolate both ends of the run and connect the clips to the hot and neutral on one end, it will drop off in signal when you pass the bad spot then just do this again from the other end and between the two marks is where the loss is. I will try to get the manufacture of them one was bought from a rummage sale for $20.00 the other we got from a company going out of business for a couple hundred bucks.
