I believe that if solder connections were superior we would use them today. Sure crimps are easier but they are also a better way to make connections.
Define 'Better'.... We now use non-solder methods because they may well be:
- faster
- easier
- require less training
- RoHS/lead fumes issues
- show failures more transparently.
- are in general"good enough"
- cheaper
A well-made solder joint takes a licking and keeps on conducting. Ask Voyager.
