Mc cable

There is a dry wall ceiling, coming down the from the drywall ceiling there is MC cable going down 1.5' to an automatic door. We use mc cable because there was no way to run it in emt.
There is no attic space either.
So we were able to fish the mc cable from another power source near by.
The customer said he doesn't want to see the mc, he would rather see emt,
with this being said. Can I sleeve the mc cable with a piece of emt?

That brings a question from me. Does anyone see a problem with pulling the back out of 700 series Wiremold and using it for physical protection in a situation like this?

No, but unless the AHJ approves the use of 700 wiremold for protection from physical damage it is nothing more than a way to cover the MC cable so it is not visable.

Like anything else, someone, somewhere will give a reason why you can't........but I do it often. As long as the EMT is grounded/bonded it's safe and looks beter.

As a sleeve, yes, but the MC still needs to be properly terminated with fittings at both ends.

Agreed, but my point is that the only person that can determine if it is adequate for protecting the MC from physical damage is the AHJ.

No he is not the only one who can determine this. Many of us can make this determination but he gets the final say--unfortunately

Give customer what ever they want and willing to pay for. This is why its important to write contracts before work.

And I agree. A section of MC cable up high comming out of a ceiling IMHO would not be subject to physical damage but my opinon does not matter. The oonly opinion that matters on this is that of the AHJ.
