I have a new client, Who is a university here in So. Cal, And they have asked me to provide a quote to do PMs on 5 large transformers, 2 300KVA 480-208/120 and 3 12KV- 480/277 transformers. THey are 1000KVA down to 500KVA.
My question is, Can I perform a Visual inspection, thourough cleaning, and look for hotspots without any special training / certs? Everything will be de energized, and I could do 480 in my sleep, But, I am not that familiar with the 12kv stuff. Is there anything I should, should not do? Should I just let this one go?
THanks for any input.

You can do anything you like, but in my opinion you will be short changing your customer, hire a testing firm, mark up their price, happy you, happy customer?

Oil filled or dry?
Do they (the University) have specs for maintenance and servicing?

Not something to do with out training, plus I have to assume you do not own a TTR test set, a winding resistance test set, or a power factor test set. Hire a testing company, this is all they do.
