Hello all, first post here. Right away, let me give some details: This meter is for power quality GE NexxusEPM 9650Q, to be installed on GE AKR-8 switchgear <600vac. It is on a federal facility for the FAA. The meter front has a terminal strip for the potential monitoring along the bottom and communications wiring across the top. The issue I see is that the communications wiring, Cat5e with RJ45 connection, is close to where the 480vac is landed on the meter front.
Are there restrictions on having the 480vac so close to the 300vac-rated insulation of the Cat5e cabling? If so,I need a reference. I fear that the FAA may take advantage of not having to be inspected and install this meter any which way.
I have probably omitted some very important details, so please ask if there is more info I can provide to get a solid answer.
Thank you in advance. Dennis.

Re: Mixed voltages on meter installation

What does the manufacturer's instructions say? I would call GE and ask for tech support. They built the meter and know what it is designed to do and how it should do it.

Re: Mixed voltages on meter installation

Thanks for the advice, I should have written that I tried GE, and they weren't a lot of help in resolving this. The over-the-phone help boiled down to " read the manual", which has no voltage connection diagrams in the communication connection diagrams, and vice versa. I feel that it is a way for them to say that it's up to the installer to determine the correct configuration, thus being relieved from responsibility.
That leads me to the next possible problem, the installer may or may not be a licensed electrician, due to the federal facility deal. I am looking to avoid a conflict with this installation, and the " installation crew" is due to arrive after the first of the year.

800.133 (A) (2) and exceptions.
I have put in the power logic brand meters and they are similar in design. The section above requires a 2 inch minimum seperation.

What we did was to use tie wraps and blocks to run the cable away from the power conductors arround the enclosure.

jbwhite: I thank you for the reference. I now have some solid ground as to why the meters are going to have to be installed in a certain way.

Best regards, Dennis.
