moving gfic outlet

So, if it's all wide open and easy, a dedicated circuit, or, bringing the electrical up to the current code is called for, but, if a bathroom is gutted, but the route back to the panel is a PITA, then it's not a new outlet just a relocation...

Just to understand your position on this, suppose the OP also added a Heat Vent Light and NEEDED another 20a circuit... and a new circuit is pulled, but the original outlet circuit was reused for the new GFCI location, still OK or is it now a violation?

What are you smoking. How do get the idea that i said you could add another item ?
All i am saying is that i dont call relocating this outlet is not new. Nothing new but the wall itself. Your allowed your opinion and i have mine. If he added a receptacle or anything then its new. I think making them bring 1 lousy outlet up to code is crazy. Why not use that $500 to maybe add arcfaults or something of serious value. This was a gutted bathroom not house. Am sure if owner was having problems with it triping they would have asked for a dedicated outlet.
Nothing in nec says we must upgrade. This is just an ahj issue. WOW we moved the receptacle over a few inches, now we have a problem. Many were wired this way for several years and were never a shock hazard or fire hazard . This code change was mostly out the need for more wattage at bathrooms for hair dryers. HMMMM maybe they needed to sell more wire and breakers. I am not saying we should apply this to a gutted house. But even if we did gut a house nothing would make us bring wiring up to date. Leave it unchanged, hang new drywall and we can even reinstall the old devices. Just don't dare move anything.
