Hmmm. I am a bit suspicious.

How do I know you and that other Scot, James I, were not in cahoots together?

Coincidences make me leery.:D
James I predated me. By a couple of centuries if I remember school history.
You may be confused by James VI who became James I after the union of the crowns.
Interesting that the same protocol has not been adopted for Lizzie II. The first predated the union.

All right, you got me on my James reference.

I should have known better.:slaphead::slaphead::slaphead: Specifics, specifics, specifics.:ashamed1:

Than to discuss the history of Scotland with a Scotsman?
Yep - you should have known better.........:p

TBH, I was never much interested in history at school. I simply couldn't see the relevance of in in the context of modern life.
My first job was commissioning/development engineer - the emphasis being on commissioning. And that took me all over the world.

Of course I saw things that were completely alien to me as a country bumpkin from the hills of Scotland. I read up on the places I went to including the history which largely shapes how they are what they are. Often because of history. The north south divide - the Mason-Dixon line is an interesting case. But for another time and place.

If this thread has achieved anything I hope it has, in some way, answered the original poster's point. Clarity of presentation.
