Ok, another question on GFP for hospitals. in 517.17(B) 2005 NEC it says the additional levels shall NOT be installed on the (emergency)essential system and between the generating unit onsite.

Why would it be ok to install the gfp between the essential system transfer swith if the generating unit is NOT onsite??such as another utility service?? it referrences 517.35(B), . Am i reading this wrong or is this just an oversite, or is there justification of this issue.

You wouldn't want your heart lung machine on a gfci would you?:)

I think you MISunderstood my question. The answer is NO i would not want a gfci or gfp tripping over something like that. Thats why i asked why is a gfp ALLOWED when there is no ' onsite generating unit'. So if its OFFsite its ok to have it???doesnt make any sense to me. !! Is this just an oversite of the Cmp when they made the code??

Brother.,,

To answer that question you have to go to art 700 , 701 and 702 and make sure you understand the 700 because this part is critail on the Hosptail system espcally if you have emergecy generators and also some of the hosptiails do have dual Uility feed as well.

And while we are on the same subject in the hospitail on the non crictail circuits they have optional to run with GFI { Make sure you check with your local / state code they may have diffrenet requirements }

Merci,Marc
