Got it, you were only referencing a GFCI receptacle and referring to the contacts that open within the device when activated.

I figured since the OP mentioned he was working on a receptacle that's what we were talking about.

Got it I just find the word contacts confusing. A standard single 15 amp receptacle would have 3 contact points for the connection of a plug.

I see your point. Especially when the NEC calls a receptacle of any sort a 'contact device'.

120V is not single pole ?
Single pole one ungrounded wire and neutral
2 pole. 2 ungrounded wired
3 pole 3 ungrounded wires
2 pole 120/250V. 2 ungrounded wires and neutral

Both hot and neutral are switched by the receptacle, hence two pole
