Re: Need advice - work in Florida?

Pete, all you need to know in thirty seconds or less:

?Donde esta el ba?o?
Where is the toilet?

?A que hora comemos?
What time do we eat?

?Regresa con mi fresadora, pinche ladron!
Come back with my drill, [expletive] thief!

Have fun down there. :D

Me too. I'll have to bring a few gallons of sunblock with me.
I once spent a week or so down in Tampa at a small shop surpervsiing some equipment they were building for an OEM.

It was bright out and I wore sun glasses. I looked like a racoon when I got home because my face was quite tanned except right around the eyes, where the sun glasses had blocked out the sun. It was months before I looked normal again.

I won't ever quite forget that week though. I flew down the day after the 2000 presidential election. No one I spoke with would admit they voted for Gore, and could not quite understand how the vote was so close, since no one they knew would have voted for Gore either.

Walmarts are going up everywhere, but I heard a week ago that a contract was awarded on one store just south of my location, and just north of JW's location.Believe it was somewhere in/ around the City of Burlington,N.Carolina area.If you come this way to N.Carolina, bring the lap-top pc... (Southern Hospitality) goes along way in this neck of the woods..

Florida is great!!! I have a electrician here for 30 years. Wouldn't live anywhere else and love it. We hav a new law that only NEC is our code( No local junk anymore) The licensing can be a hassel unless you have a journemans card already. Great suppliers etc. I have worked in most of the state but find cetral Florida the best. Oh on the code issue Reedy Creek (Disney) still has their EPCOT code as they are not part of Florida.

Re: Need advice - work in Florida?

Go so you don't spend the rest of your life wondering. I have lived in Colorado all my life & got a chance to go to Miami with a friend who drove a semi truck. One of the best vacations I ever took. Saw a lot even tho I sat in a truck most of the time. Good luck & have fun. Ron

Here is what Dillon has said, and I have offered a couple of prime rib dinners if Peter comes to North Carolina. We will not take him out to get drunk and waste his money on them $2 girls either.

Don?t forget that NC is the home of the world famous Bar-B-Que!!!!

Now what do those who live in the state of Florida have to offer other than gator stew?

Re: Need advice - work in Florida?

I came here to work first in the mid seventies, went back to ny after a few years. Then I got sick of the snow/dirt/crime. Returned in 82 and have been here since.Yes it gets hot in the summer but NYC gets into the 100 degree range and with 100% humidity :D This week it has stayed in the high seventies and just look at the weather elsewhere :D .If in your shoes and was offered an all expense trip and get paid at the same time go for it.
I went to Oklamoma last July to wire a church in cherokke nation land.Had a blast as got paid for it too

Re: Need advice - work in Florida?

Lexington North Carolina the Bar-B-Q capital of the world. They have a festival every year with thousands showing up from all over the world. Concrete pigs sitting in the courthouse yard.
Slow cooked shoulder over hickory coals for about 10 to 12 hours, it sound so good.

Re: Need advice - work in Florida?

Actually i prefer red wire nuts to chew on,miss them lime flavored ones you residential guys get.Batwings are not bad either if cooked right

Re: Need advice - work in Florida?

Update: Here are the details. I just had an interview today and was put "at the top of the list."

The company is a large national service company based in the midwest. The job they are doing in Tampa, Florida is replacing all of the switchgear at the area WalMarts to adapt them for generator connections. (Due to the hurricanes- surprise.)

It is a one day operation -set up by day, shut down and work at night. Everything up and running by morning. So obviously it is fast paced.

They do this switch gear work as well as energy management work for all the national chains.

If anyone has any experience with this type of work, I am interested to hear about it.

Not something I need to worry about. If I decide to go, one of the first things I will be looking for is a church to attend.
