I am DIYing a full gut job remodel.
Rural area, currently service is cable suspended from POCO pole to exterior wall. POCO has authorized 400A service upgrade and a hybrid installation: POCO will do a pole to pole drop (I already purchased and set a pole), meter base and disconnect will be mounted at pole following POCO supplied mobile home guidelines. From there I was planning direct burial for a looping 140ft run to the main house. This keeps the meter 'line of site' from the road so roving meter reader does not have to come down the drive and allows me to kill power to the entire property anytime the need arises without calling POCO (between remodeling, drainage, septic, wells etc we always seem to be digging stuff up out here!)
I had an 'electrician' on the job last year when I started the remodel but I ran into a TON of hidden structural issues that really killed progress. Now that I'm back on track he has vanished so it's looking like DIY time.
The original quote/materials list I was given called for 4-4-4-2 URD from the meter to the house. From my searching I'm seeing URD is not rated to come into the structure or directly fed into the panel. Is this true? Even if placed in steel conduit? What is the best course of action here?
Thanks!
