The NEC refers you to NFPA 780 for information on Lightning Protection Systems....since the systems are NOT required to be installed anywhere, must they be inspected?

Re: NFPA 780 and inspections

I would say yes. For example, optional standby systems aren't required, TVSS isn't required, surge protection isn't required, etc... Even though it is not required it still must comply, and therefore must be inspected.

Re: NFPA 780 and inspections

With the mention of the term ?air terminal? in these articles I would be lead to believe that they would need to be inspected
250.53 (B), 250.60 Use of Air Terminals., 800.100 (B) (2) (2)

Yes, and other agencies can come into play, UL and insurance companies if it is certified as Master Label per UL96-A

Re: NFPA 780 and inspections

Dereck, thanks for the help on using the two eight foot rods for lighting protection. I have learned a lot about lighting in the past couple of weeks. Again thanks

Re: NFPA 780 and inspections

OK...

That's the answer I expected being both an installer and inspector, but was just looking for a loophole so I wouldn't have to deal with "conflict of interest" issues dealing with the city I work for. May have to go plead my case to the Mayor/Board.

Thanks all.
