No lights on SABC rule

And now we have floor recepts required in meeting rooms. Carry on.

Good design practice, but why does it need to be required? Later post mentioned tripping on cords - pendants from ceiling would avoid that situation, may not be as desirable but that is not what NEC is about.

It doesn't seem to matter that installations are unique (not every meeting rm will have equipment in use that would even need the recs) or that the AHJ could take the lead in amending the code as they see fit. Its just a rule b/c it gives a few folks the warm fuzzies.

I used 20 amp circuits for receptacles for years. There were even areas here where #14 NM was not allowed.

Now I go in new houses that cost a million bucks and they all have 15 amp circuits to general use receptacles. They don't seem to have any problems with it.

I still pig tail and not back stab but I'm on the #14 NM band wagon now. It does seem a lot easier to work with.

#14 is paradise. If they allowed splits here in the US and I was still wiring I would use that instead for the SABC.

If by splits you mean multiwire branch circuits - that is allowed:?

It just became less practical with handle tie rules and AFCI requirements.

Would need to be 20 amps for SABC's though.

Yes MWBC with the outlet split wired. Does not need to be 20amps though, the CEC is fine with 15 provided the outlet is split, ie 240 on the same yoke.

Does CEC want just the single duplex as the only outlet on the circuit, or can you run multiple duplex outlets as long as they are split on a 15 amp circuit (still talking just the SABC's or whatever they may have as an equivalent)

The source of that image has NEC violation on connection of neutral on the left receptacle BTW.

You can have multiple duplex splits, but beyond a certain amount of counter top space you need another split circuit. So larger kitchen would get 2 3 wire circuits, a mansion might get 3 or 4 3 wire circuits. It would be nice if the NEC allowed this as an alternative. Typical apartments and condos could easily get away with a single 15 amp MWBC.
