I am assuming you are talking about that type of installation instead of two 15 ampere receptacles on one yoke. It is easy to pull more than 20 amperes from a duplex receptacle outlet and it would not be dangerous. The 20 ampere overcurrent device will protect the circuit and each receptacle is rated for 15 amperes.
Yes Bob, you have to stack up the cube type receptacles and build the type of things that we take pictures of to show people how to burn their homes down.It is still possible for someone to plug two loads into the same 15A receptacle that exceed 15A in total load.
