I'm surprised at what would seem to be a tempest in a teapot-The one rule that might seem to imply a thing is implied as ok-must always be hooked up with all that is associated with it on the other end-a rule that references boxes ,cabinets,..etc and what wiring methods can be somehow correctly terminated in said box, also only work if all methods for that particular wiring/cable assembly's that are allowed according to its "LISTING" are followed and are also allowed in the method that you want to employ or are setting up a hypothetical question for.
To put it another way[only literary here not electrical but it suits the purpose]when it comes to code{evey thing seems to often reference additional sections] "IF THE THUNDER DON"T GET YOU,THEN THE LIGHTING WILL". i.e nothing is ever what it seems-thats why you're a qualified person asking questions. When someone stops asking questions is the the trouble starts.
