Off grid minimum code generator size for shop

This county is extremely relaxed about permits and inspections. No electrical permits required. This county does not do licensing or bonding. And no county electrical inspections. Don't ask me why. :)
For liability reasons, though it may make it harder to compete, it is still a good idea to follow codes.

I bet if you want to do things correctly and follow codes you also find it hard to compete for jobs. You however may get some cleanup work following those that don't really know what they are doing.

The libertarian in me doesn't like or want worthless government paid inspectors mucking around.

What about all of the worthy, underpaid, fee-supported inspectors out there?
From comments I often hear on this site, seems like there is some truth there. The government paid ones are often useless, and those that are fee-supported are worthy, and probably underpaid.

I wonder where that puts NJ. All the inspectors either work for DCA or are on the municipal payroll. However, by law the fee structure for each municipality is supposed to cover all inspection costs and not much more. So, the inspection process is fee-supported, just not directly.

Our state inspectors are technically state employees, but the electrical division operates from it's own fees and not tax dollars, their own fees just happen to pass through the state treasury dept before the division's bills get paid.

Yes, I intend to do work the right way and to code even if there are no inspections (isn't that integrity?:happyyes: lol) Anyways, thank you everyone for your time and suggestions!

That's always best. After all, the code is really about safety. I sure don't want anyone hurt (or worse) because of something I did!

Mount a generator inlet back to back with the panel, connected to the line terminals of the main breaker panel (anything convenient from 60A to 200A), and be done.

To what extent is the following true?

Some generator types do not require 3 phase short circuit protection and so main breaker panel size ''anything convenient from 60A to 200A'' may be applicable. But for other generator types, it is not really so.

He was merely giving a suggestion of how to comply with this:

My question is do I need to have a minimum of 60amp service for this pole building? The code says in 225.39D that "all other structures" need a minimum of 60 amp main breaker.

I just wanted to know the justification for the range 60A to 200A for panel size.
well he could have stated 60-4000 amps and not been wrong, but typically there is a huge price difference going from 200 to 4000 amps so there was some code related component as well as a common sense component embedded in there.

Sorry, you missed the point in post#34.
