The PV DC cables coming from my solar array back to the house are in a 4/0 service entrance cable because of the 280' total distance. Expensive yes, but I didn't want much of a voltage drop.

When the service cable reaches the house, it travels up through non-metallic conduit (PVC) into the attic. However this is at one end of the attic and the disconnects, inverter and all the rest are in the electric room on the other side of house, so I need to go to the from one end of the attic to the other.

In reading Mike Holt's 2011 NEC Requirements for Solar PV Systems, it seems like I just can't run the service entrance cable in the attic from one end to the other. I take it to mean that it has to be in some kind of conduit. Is that correct?
