Outbuilding vs outdoor sub panel

You need a disconnecting means at the separate structure, a main CB in the panel is the easiest way to do it but the disconnecting means is not required to be a CB in the panel. It could be a separate unfused disconnect switch.

My thinking is, here in Wisconsin, we can only go 8’ inside the dwelling with the cable, but if the disconnecting means is on the outside can we go over the 8’, as the cable has CB at a ped. We have been putting panels in inconvenient places for the homeowner because of this, because the mechanical room is nowhere near where the power comes in.

No problem just put a meter main on the building and run your SER wherever you heart desires.
