check this out;

nf_panelboard%40120~208.jpg

I spotted this today at a customer's location.

Its a squareD NF panelboard on a 120/208Y. This panelboard is rated for 600V systems. I didn't check the spec's on the cb's, but i believe the minimum rated cb for this panelboard is 277/480v.

This was an add-on at this location; since we've performed the same task at other locations, I know this equipment wasn't spec'd in the plans. I can't imagine someone just had one of these laying around they needed to get rid of.

This was a waste of a couple thousand bucks or more, including the cb's. i do know that most all of those breakers were supposed to be GFCI's.

Waste of a couple thousand bucks?

I don't know how the prices are where you are, but we can get a 42 circuit panel loaded with breakers for $800-900. Square D NF

what voltage rating?

I priced a 480v 18sp NF and it was over $2k; that was w/o breakers.

Maybe it was required to meet the AIC ratings.

don't know. we've done this same setup for the same client elsewhere and that wasn't required.

Those were quite common until the late 1970's or so, 240-81 in the 1984 NEC added panelboards to the requirements that when circuit breakers are mounted vertical that "ON" must be up, several prior editions only mentioned switchboards.

I figured that it came that way, it was just fun to point it out. Also, what about the blue wire going to the neutral bus?

i have no idea. i was on my way to check out some fuel pumps that weren't working, and spotted this on the side of a building i walked by.
