What is the minimum clearance from the ground/floor to the panel?

I dont believe panel height is an issue, its a maxium main breaker handle height issue, if you have a main breaker that is....

clearance from floor to panel

clearance from floor to panel

I went to a 68 house today and had to check the service panel an my knees.
That just doesn't seem right.

The last bad receptacle I replaced, I had to get on my knees! Thats not right! A little old lady had to help me up!

I install a lot of them in the baseboard, I have to lie down to install them, thats not right!

About the worst is hand dug basements around here where you have to cock your head just slightly to be under the floor boards. And constantly slamming your head, face etc... into the floor joists.

I helped with a 24 unit retirement home once. Each unit was to be ADA compliant, so we put all the panels at 48" to the top. I cut them all in while sitting on a bucket. Nice.

I have never heard of that as a requirement before, that is just goofy:rolleyes:

The only code Ive been able to find is 24'' above ground for a mobile home outside disconnect. But guess what I called the AHJ on a situation in an old house where I needed to install a 200 a panel and all I had was 18" above floor, He turned me down . I had to cut 6" out of a 4x12 beam to get 24" . I know its not in the code but around here you dont aegue with the ahj, They will nic pic your jobs to death if you do.

what was that beam holding up? I hope it was way over engineered to allow for having half of it removed. I would have stood my ground on that one before weakening the structure.

Actually the max height is for any breaker not just a main. If you put in a panel with the main at the bottom then the 6' 7" would be to the highest branch breaker. Reference 240.24(A)

I agree with everyone else, no min except for on a mobile home. Put it 3" above the floor if you would like. :)
