Really? :-?

Or do the NEC calcs just predict it?

What size conductor does the utility use?

I've done some geothermals with 150a in heat strips alone. You get a nice three-day stretch of -20?F midwest winter, and usage really starts to go up. Throw in the 60-100a compressor, dryer, range, water heater, toss in some floor heat and the hot tub.....

350/350/250.

350 amps @ 240 volts is 84 kVA. What size transformers does the poco use to feed these homes? 75 kVA? 100 kVA?

So what are they all for?

Overcurrent protection.....Duh. ;)

Just Kidiing. :D

Electric Heat and your standard household 240V loads: Range, W.H., Dryer, Well Pump.

Here's a question for you all:

Is a load calc. required for a panel swap?

Require, IMO no. Do you have 20 minutes to look around and do one? Responsible.

I changed out a panel for a co-worker last weekend. Went form 100A to 200A due to a burned main breaker. The existing U/G meter can was 200A rated so it was an easy 7' cable and panel change. (looks a lot like your pictures) The problem I ran into was short neutral wires. The original contractor from 20 years ago had plenty of length on the wires but cut all of the neutrals short to the top mounted neutral bar. Do you think I should have to mount a trough above the panel and terminate all of the circuits? I've been out of the field for years since going with my industial maintenance job. The homeowner took out his own permit and I 'assisted' him with the install.
