correct. to see it you have to read

Dingdongaroo.....8" of rock and 2" of asphalt doesn't equal:
18" of cover.
12" of cover over 2" of concrete.
4" of cover over 4" of concrete.
You may need to "read" 300.5

God you love to run at the edge. :D
LMAO

This is the first I'd seen this thread - Jim does seem to start more of the "edge of the code" threads than anyone else here, doesn't he? ;)

Always makes for a good discussion, though.

It does look like Jim is Binge posting. Another few months & he'll pass you in post George.
Should we have an intervention for Jim?

Actually, Jim, you had 4576 posts under your old screen name, so with the 1065 you have on the new one, that brings you to 5641 posts. Right now I have 5713, which means I only just recently passed you. :)

If I stand on your shoulders I can almost see Bob. :D

He speaks the truth!

Don't be shy about asking for a change order if they decide to take out that 14".

That might just very well happen, there is talk of removing the building pad. They could wait on the parking lot till we dry out in 2 months. Its becoming costly for all.

This sounds like a classic case of an engineering firm telling a customer they might be able to save $$$ by letting the lot dry out. It almost never works out.

One of the most interesting lots around here is one that Wal Mart could not build on because the ground was too spongy. It would not dry out (down pretty deep, I think about 20'-30' deep). The soil report said if it ever did dry out it would be fine to build on.

So, Wal Mart had the GC drill down into the muck, insert wicks, then mound dirt from the parking lot on top of the building site. The weight of the dirt pile forced the water to wick out and once it was dry, they sealed off the boring holes and built the building.
