pasting over competitor's resi panel stickers

Do you think it's proper to paste your company's sticker over another EC's sticker on a residential panel? Personally, I'm not really worried about what the other company thinks. I'm more worried about what the homeowner thinks. Maybe they called me because the other guys were busy and really want to keep their info. I'm concerned enough about this that I use magnetic "stickers" (which I place over the competition's) so the homeowner can move the magnet if needed to see the old info. I really didn't want to ask the HO if this was OK. The magnets are expensive and I was thinking about going to real stickers.
 
You're there doing the work and they're not. I don't see a problem. Quite often in old houses we would see stickers for companies that weren't even in business any longer.

I agree,if your there and they are NOT,there must be a reason,or in either case,its just business. It may raise an eyebrow from your competition,but theyde do it.This is not about morals,its about profit,and if the person/company wants your services instead of the other co's,why should'nt you take advantage of a marketing opportunity. :)
 
I rarely see stickers on panels anymore. But then again we have a lot of unpermitted, uninspected work taking place, so that might explain it. ;)
 
I also wanted to ask what you think about stickering the outside of the panel (as opposed to inside the door). I would never do this as I think it's ugly but I see a lot of stickers on the outside from others.

You would have to be nuts to sticker over your competitor's (jmho). Sticker adjacent to their's and let the customer have a choice. It's "their" panel after all.

Imo, sticker indicates who installed the panel, not who serviced it last. I've always thought the sticker was a class act.

You're really talking about a small group of 'who would sticker the panel' and the cultural and business standards difference within that group between who would sticker over their competitor and who may be offended or annoyed by being treated that way.

Really, don't you think you would run into them at the breakfast diner. Would you sneeze on their food as a matter of course.

What makes it OK on the panel?
 
I put them on the outside cover so as soon the customer looks at the panel they see our name and contact information. This would give you a chance to ask the customer why they chose to call you instead of the company already on the panel. Great way to find out how you can stand out and above the competition, and improve your customer service.

To answer your question. No, the electrical panel is sufficient enough place to put my sticker.
 
Saw an EC sticker in a panel installed ~1970 last year. Hadnt heard of them, decided to call the number. They were still in business! Tho the guy I talked to said they did mostly service work now, and none of the people there were there in 1970.

Some friendly panel graffiti is ok with me. You were called last, and any existing stickers may be no good any more, tho I will leave an obviously newer sticker for a co that does, say, the generator, alone, and put ours next to (above) it.
 
I've seen and respected stickers that say something like "Installed by _____, (company), IBEW Local 3, (date). The installer signed his name to work that he is proud of. However a sticker that just gives a company name I would have no problem covering. Like was said, there is a reason you are there and that company isn't. A sticker on the panel eliminates the "who was that company we had here last time" question. And magnets are more expensive and get lost. Give one to the customer to slap on their refrigerator where they belong.

Oh, if you do crap work I wouldn't want to put my name on anything so save your sticker money.

I used to put stickers in panels....like in the 80's

I also remember stapling ads on telephone poles for my band's gig.... you definitely cover the other guys ads on a pole...lol
 
Unfortunately 75% of the work I see is not something you would want attached to your name :)
 
I use magnetic business cards. I am picky as to which panels I put them on as to NOT put claim on someone else's junk work. This way if someone doesn't want it on there it's easy to take off and the panel is still clean. I always make sure the customer has one for their fridge no matter how bad the work was that someone else did.
