Here's the situation.
Owner (residential) has a pump--(needs 20A, 120V, twist lok), has a 120V plug in heater, 120V plug in underwater fixture with transformer, and a 120V chemical pump. All the accessories are on 3' cords with molded straight blade male NEMA 5-15 plugs.
680.7 says cords are OK
680.22A says OK to GFI if 680.7 is complied with.

Here's my dilemma. These 3 devices are going to be "plugged in" to a quad receptacle located at the 5' from inside pool wall mark.

Is it code compliant to have this quad receptacle (GFCI protected) in the not less than 5' zone?

I didn't find anything in the code saying yes it's ok or no way, not allowed.

Thanks for the help.

I'm at home with no codebook, but the reference pertains to substandard property lines.

In my case what is the solution? Cut off the straight blade plugs and install twist loks?

We do have the required receptacle in the 10'-20' zone.

Thanks again.

Also, they all need to be on a gfci and twist-lock, 680.22(A)(1).
Just to be sure, am I mistaken in my thinking that only the chemical pump is governed by (A)(1)?
(1) Circulation and Sanitation System, Location. Receptacles that provide power for water-pump motors or for other loads directly related to the circulation and sanitation system shall be located at least 3.0 m (10 ft) from the inside walls of the pool, or not less than 1.5 m (5 ft) from the inside walls of the pool if they meet all of the following conditions:
(1) Consist of single receptacles
(2) Employ a locking configuration
(3) Are of the grounding type
(4) Have GFCI protection

(2) Other Receptacles, Location. Other receptacles shall be not less than 3.0 m (10 ft) from the inside walls of a pool.

OK! I just pulled the rest of my hair out.

The chemical pump will have its plug cutoff and a twist lok installed.

The light will be hardwired.

ref 680.22(A)(1)

Thanks!

I don't think you should have to cut a plug of a piece of manufactured equipment. They should have known that there wouldn't be a receptacle within 10' when they made the pump.

Can you plug the pump in 10' away and set the chemical pump 7' from the pool? Or does the pump have to be right at the pool?

I agree. The mfr blew it.

Don't know. Will find out Thursday.

Did find out that the pool installer has the chemical pump. Need to see it to determine best course of action.

Thanks everyone.

George,

In my opinion, all of it is "directly related to the circulation and sanitation system" in this scenario.

I have had to look at many pool installations and make judgement calls on several, usually it is this sort of situation.

Even these?

I'm not saying I see a safety problem with bending it a bit, but I know so little about pools I'd be squeamish about bending.

wouldnt cutting the end off and installing another cap violate the UL listing of the equipment?

Yea! That's the first words out of ALL sparkies mouths.

We cut the straight blade plugs off and installed twist loks. We installed 3 20A, 120V twist lok receptacles:
1-pool pump
2-chemical pump (Baquacil is brand)
3-pool light (has a transformer 24" away from plug to drop volts to 12)

ALL recpts are GFCI protected.

Heater is hardwired.

Apparently this equipment has been around a few years and is now appearing on home pools. The chemical pump is one that looks just like a unit for a hotel pool.

Job gets inspected Friday.
