If someone wants to run some PVC in a slab they are pouring for a new hot tub is there anything they should watch out for? I looked up the requirements for the minimum cover requirements in table 300.5 and see that, if it in the ground, it needs to be 4" below a 4 inch slab, or 12" below a 2" slab, but what if they want to actually put it in the pour? Thank you!

Table 300.5 is for burial depths in the ground and has nothing to do with conduits installed in poured concrete.

No, I don't think so. I was just wondering if he poured a slab for this hot tub and actually embedded the concrete if there was anything specifically mentioned in the code. I would like to suggest he dig the trench and go 4" below the slab (assuming the concrete is a minimum of 4") and come up on the side of the house as well as wherever he needs to come up on the slab.

And what would you suggest if the hot tub was on the fifth floor of a building with poured concrete decking?

My hot tub requirements were for a 5" gravel base and a 4" slab.

I think I agree with what you said. If under an exterior slab it must be buried at least 4 inches. If the slab would happen to be the floor of a building then the cover under a building is zero.

The table does not apply to deck slabs.

I really appreciate the help. I understand that 300.5 does not apply and am looking for a specific reference to installing conduit in concrete, if one exists.

A reference for the raceway within the concrete, what kind of reference?

This forum was asking the same questions except his included an interior installation and my question is in regards to an exterior install. I am looking for some specific code requirements, if any, that are applicable for a PVC installed in the slab (not under it or on top of it, but in it). It does not sound like there is anything in the code that actually calls out a minimum burial, spacing etc.

Yes, there is no minimum depth in the NEC for concrete encased conduits. Spacing would be determined by the structural building code where if you had many conduits run tight together they could weaken the slab. One PVC conduit in a slab for a hot tub should not present any problems.
