Question for Inspectors

How many of you get down on the floor and remove the bottom panels of the dishwasher to inspect the connection?? I allways do and lately have found the factory installed 2" Square j-boxes missing. If seems GE inall their wisdom have been shipping the j-box inside the DW with the plumbing fittings. The plumber leaves it on the floor, in a drawer, or throws it away. I have found no less than 15 in the last 2 weeks. Only 6 from condo's. The good electricians are at least are bundiling up the wires with ty-wraps to the DW. The not so good are just striping the RX or Cord and making flying splices with no tape. My fellow inspectors are finding them all over the County. All get turned down. Now they must get one from GE or install Handy boxes in thier place. Hollywood lights in the bathrooms are also not getting grounded or proper connectors installed.

At least you got the grounds twisted togther. My guys are "cutting off" the ground for the cover. Run rx thru the origional supplyed bushing. (no box installed) If the do use that plastic connector they cut one of the jaws off.
 
I had a similar problem with the hollywood lights in bathrooms, no boxes, grounds cut off, wirenuts pushed back into the wall, not just one contractor I would have to say the majority of contractors, all contractors were notified if it continued to be a problem somebody from the contractor would have to be on site to remove any fixtures I requested for inspection, I have not had any problems with that lately.

check those weatherproof boxes also, failed many contractors no connectors and boxes not grounded

The 1 5/8" fine thread sheetrock screws don't hold very well in that stryofoam/stucco wall....

Oh, there's the screw....what happened to it's head, is it really doing anything?

At least it's grounded....
 
You guys that don't look should try it for about a week. You will be very suprised at what you find. Pool panels especially. Bare ground to the main. No grounds. Reidentified wires under #6. No connectors in A/C back of disconects
 
I don't check DW's. I do check pool wiring & I also check for spark rings in waincotting & cabinet outlets. Failed many until the word got out. I don't check behind light fixtures either. Don't really have the time.

That is a common violation here as well. Another thing that I seem to write up alot is recessed cans in clothes closets without an enclosed lamp.

I do this for #8. Its pretty hard to come by around here in anything but black.
 
The hollywood strip lights became a huge issue here a few years ago.When an inspector found the paperwork for one that was installed and it showed a box installed but all it had was a nm connector in the 1/2 in hole,Nm connected that way.Simple remedy was to install a pancake box on the fixture itself(doesn`t need to be wall mounted) and made sure it was grounded.It seems that the fixtures that have provisions for box screws all have instructions for using a box.
