Can a disconnect or combination of disconnects be used as a raceway. In other words, could I pass a piece of mc cable through five disconnect switches to feed a service receptacle mounted on the bottom of the fith disconnect? 404.3 (B)----312.8

Depends on 2 things:

~wires being passed through do not take up more than 40% of the space
~you strip the MC first!

I would be careful though. There is not much room in some smaller disconnects.

I have five disconnects on the outside of a building. I want to bring all my line side branch conductors in through the first disconnect, to the second, to the third, to the fourth and then to the fifth. I then want to route my load conductors back in the same race way. this is only an example and not a good practice in my opinion, but is a code violation??
