Is it acceptable to tag and change colors of #12 wires in an mc cable ? I know you can't change colors of wires in a conduit. Thanks
I did a no-no a few years ago. I stripped the red conductor everywhere it was exposed to use as the EGC for an isolated-ground circuit, using the green as the IG conductor.
Yes.
White may re-identified as ungrounded, any hot color may be re-marked for a different phase, but green is always still an EGC.
"Where the conditions of maintenance and supervision ensure that only qualified persons service the installation..."Isn't that actually permitted?
Larger than #6, yes.can an ungrounded be re-identified as white/grounded?

See 250.119(B)
In this case, it was the circuit for a POS system (registers, touch-pads, printers, etc.) in a restaurant. From my experience that's typically the case when you have an isolated grounding system.![]()

Or the opposite: an IG receptacle on a non-IG circuit.I've lost track of the number of POS recpts that I've demod in old stores that have an IG tagged to a non IG recpt.
