Re: Receptacle location - Library

ok i agree that this library must meet spacing as an included room. What is at dispute is if a bookcase counts as an opening. 210.52A 2 (1) says similar to doorways and firefplaces. To my thinking they were indicating items that would not render themself to needing an outlet. We already had this issue brought up about appliance garages and agreed they needed no outlets,so if i don't need one there what makes you think i need one in front of a book shelf ?Often NEC uses that word SIMILAR.So here we see it again.Who is to say what is similar to a door or fireplace. They are not similar to each other.I could just as easily want to put a taple and lamp in front of a bedroom closet bi fold doors, yet they need no outlet. My argument is this was a design issue if it left no area for a chair, table and lamp. What would we do if someone had a bedroom with no walls 2 feet or greater ?Unlikely but with enough closet doors and exterior doors it is possable.

Todd, well put. :)

John, if it had've been solely by the first touchdown, I would not have been as proud of them as I am. That pass interference call was questionable, but the points thereafter were hard-earned. :D

True, but irrelevant. The NEC is not responsible for making the owner happy, or for making it convenient to put a lamp somewhere.

Re: Receptacle location - Library

How are a fireplace, door and other openings the NEC recognizes similar? They do not take up the entire wall space, still leaving a wall space available for installing a receptacle.

BTW: I have a small library in my home... there are receptacles on each wall where the bookshelves are located. :)

Generally that's true. But look at what it says to do about that space.
Now if this was my library i would spec a few receptacles.Yes a good idea. But are they required ?
